Overview

Lower energy bills from day one, without paying upfront

LED is one of the few capital projects that can pay for itself while you are still paying for it. The obstacle is rarely the business case. It is finding the capital in one go, across every site, at the same time as everything else competing for budget.

LED equipment finance spreads the cost of an LED lighting upgrade over fixed monthly payments. Because LED uses far less electricity than fluorescent, halogen or high-pressure sodium lighting, the energy saved can offset much or all of the monthly rental.

Oak Leasing is a bespoke pan-European funding facilitator for equipment finance across the UK and Europe, established in 1992. We are not a lender. We structure each LED project around your energy savings, cash flow and installation timetable, then place it with the right funder from a panel of more than 40, in GBP or EUR.

Every agreement is explained in plain English before you sign, with no hidden fees.

The business case

Let the savings fund the rentals

01

Energy

LED typically cuts lighting electricity use by more than half compared with fluorescent and discharge lighting, and further again with presence and daylight controls.

02

Maintenance

Longer lamp life means fewer replacements, less access equipment and less disruption, which matters most in high-bay warehouses and 24-hour sites.

03

Compliance

Most fluorescent tubes can no longer be placed on the UK or EU market, so ageing installations face rising replacement costs. LED also supports ESOS, SECR and EU energy-efficiency reporting.

With the term matched to your projected saving, the monthly rental can sit at or below the reduction in your energy bill, so the upgrade is cash-flow neutral or positive from the first month.

What we fund

The whole lighting project, not just the fittings

  • LED panels, downlights and battens
  • High-bay and low-bay warehouse lighting
  • Retail display and track lighting
  • Exterior, car park and floodlighting
  • Street and estate lighting
  • Sports and arena lighting
  • Lighting controls, sensors and DALI systems
  • Emergency lighting
  • LED video walls and digital signage
  • Horticultural LED grow lighting
  • Lighting surveys and design
  • Installation and decommissioning

An LED retrofit is rarely just a box of fittings. It includes surveys, design, controls, access equipment and installation, often across occupied buildings. We structure the finance so the turnkey project is funded together, rather than leaving you to cover the labour in cash.

Soft costs such as installation, design and surveys can usually be included alongside the hardware, subject to funder appetite and the overall project mix.

Sectors

Manufacturing

Production halls and plant rooms, where better light improves safety as well as cost.

Retail & supermarkets

Store and display lighting rolled out across estates to one brand standard.

Offices & commercial property

Landlord and tenant upgrades that lift EPC ratings and reduce service charges.

Hospitality & leisure

Hotels, gyms and venues, from guest areas to car parks and sports pitches.

Structures

The right agreement for your balance sheet

01

Finance lease

Fixed rentals, typically over three to seven years, matched to your projected energy saving, with VAT spread across the rentals rather than paid upfront.

02

Hire purchase

Own the installation at the end of the term, with capital allowances available from the start. More on hire purchase equipment finance.

03

Operating lease

Off-balance-sheet treatment may be available for some structures, keeping rentals lower and giving an upgrade path at term end.

04

Refinance a completed installation

Already paid for your LED upgrade in cash? Release that capital back into the business through asset refinance.

Tax and accounting treatment depends on your circumstances. Please confirm with your accountant.

For LED manufacturers, distributors & installers

Sell the saving, not the capital cost

Your customers already accept the case for LED. What stalls the order is the capital approval. An Oak Leasing vendor leasing programme puts a monthly rental alongside the projected energy saving in your proposal, so the decision becomes a simple comparison instead of a budget request.

We handle the credit applications, documentation and payment to you, with the same plain-English approach your customers get. Programmes work for single-site retrofits and multi-site rollouts, and smaller projects from £10,000 are considered within the programme.

  • Shorter sales cycles, without waiting on capital budgets
  • Get paid in full on completion
  • Win full turnkey specifications, including controls
  • Consistent terms for customers in the UK and across Europe
  • One finance partner instead of separate local lenders in each country
Pan-European rollouts

One LED programme, many countries, one point of contact

Retailers, logistics operators and property groups upgrading lighting across Europe often find each country brings its own lenders, documentation and credit process. Oak Leasing works with more than 40 funders across over 30 countries, so an estate-wide rollout across the UK, Ireland, Germany, France, the Netherlands, Spain or Italy can be funded under consistent terms and managed through one relationship.

For UK businesses buying European-manufactured lighting or control systems, we can arrange stage payment funding. The funder pays the manufacturer's stage payments, secured by an advance payment guarantee, and you pay only interest on those payments until delivery. It is a structure most main clearing banks will not offer.
